Renovamen

When he gasped, it was filled with the water of renewal. Drowning was nearly his re-entry into the world, lungs teeming with that which he did not yet understand. But then, it all peeled away, burned new and bright and disorienting.

 

His spine ached, his seams stretched and tore. His eyes were dozens more than that which he remembered. Impossibility, a new life in this place. This was the original thought. But preconceptions are often missing pieces.

 

And when all passed, all was born and through, he gazed below himself. Upon himself, the husk. Faceless, a cicada of his predecessor, still him, of Yesterday. But he was Today. He was Tomorrow. He was Forever.
