A traditional sweet known by many names, Ariselu in Telugu, Kajjaya in Kannada, Arisa in Odisha Athirasa in Tamil, Anarsa in Marathi, Arsa or Anarsa in Bihar and Jharkhand. Many of us share a strong bond with this soft, crunchy, and yummy sweet dish made of rice flour, jaggery, and ghee /oil. Ariselu is prepared during festivities like Sankranti, Dusshera, and Deepavali.
They say, according to the inscriptions Ariselu / Kajjaya/ Athirasa dates back to 16th century Vijayanagara empire i.e; Sri Krishnadevaraya's time and it was made as an offering to the gods during Deepavali celebrations.
