Week 26/23 - Tomato bed

My tomato bed a week ago - the salads have doubled in size by now (or are already eaten), and the tomato plants grown at least 20cm each. Between the tomatoes are various herbs (basil varieties, rocket, Greek origanum, lemon thyme), flowers to attrackt pollinators (snapdragons which overwintered in the bed), garden cosmos and nigella damascena (love in a mist) which are also self-seeding and kept in part as green manure/bed cover in winter), and currently two varieties of lettuce planted in intervals, romaine and batavia, and my first attempt at white onions. Already harvested is garlic put into the bed last September and growing over the winter.

The frame around the bed is new - the old one was made of recycled planks which were disintegrating, and also smaller; we've now enlargened it sufficiently to house ten tomato plants and raised it higher so I can cover the soil with a thicker layer of mulch (not yet in place in the pic).
