This image has two images combined, one layer is a black and white image of a plant. The leaves of the plant are spread out and are mostly on the right side of the image. The plant has unique patterns and can be seen despite the layered image. The second layer is a photo of my partner carrying our baby. They have a pattern across them from the light coming in through the blinds; this image is in color. For this image, I had used the Photoshop guided option to combine the images and from there, I had done some small adjustments to the lighting so that both images could be seen better. As I have mentioned in a previous discussion board posting, I think this image is artistic. I think it is artistic for a couple of reasons; one is because of the message that it carries, and another is because of the technical side of it. The photo communicates the things that I take care of within my household. I take care of my plants and have a strong connection to my plants, especially since I have many of them. The second image is of my family, which I also take care of. My daughter is someone I spend so much time caring for, as she’s only three months and still very very dependent on me and my partner for everything. My partner is someone I take care of through our relationship. So at a first glance, it may be unclear how these two images might be related at first. However, once learning the significance of the image, I think the artistic and creative quality can be appreciated more. As for the technical side, I think this image is artistic because of the layering and how both images can be seen through the layering. Through combining a black and white image and a colored image, I created contrast. I also carried this contrast through the subjects of the photos, as both photos contain images of life. If I were to do this image differently to have the artistic quality and creative quality stand out more, what I would do is take the image of my family on a more plain background so that the stripes from the light is not distracting from the image and instead they can be appreciated more, while also showing the plant better. I might also choose brighter colors so that they can pop against the black and white image.
