Leopold-Class Carrier
Prosecutor- ...And it was at this point that you and the crew executed Captain --------- in cold blood, correct?
Rear Fleet Admiral --------, ISSF ComBor - Not all the crew.
P- Sorry?
RFA- Some of the crew refused to follow us
P- And by us you mean...?
RFA- Admiral Leopold, of course
P- Who at the time was the ship's XO, while you were a weapons officer, a lieutenant.
RFA- Correct
P- What happened to those crewmen who refused to mutiny?
RFA- They were executed.
P- Without trial?
RFA- Correct
P- I understand you personally carried out this act of murder
RFA- Correct
P- And why did Senior Lieutenant Leopold and yourself feel it was necessary to mutiny, causing untold suffering and unnecessary death?
RFA (loudly)- You dare speak of unnecessary death? You who failed to secure the Periphery and abandoned border worlds? Who failed to update ship designs and give us the tools we needed to crush our enemies? You blamed us for our failures, but refused us the tools we needed to succeed!
P- Fleet acquisitions and logistics are very complicated and difficult to...
RFA(Interrupts)- Typical. The excuses of cowards and dullards. Did you really think we would do nothing while you lined your pockets at the cost of our blood?
P- Let me remind you, Lieutenant, that you are the one on trial here. The Mutiny split the fleet at a critical time, putting all of humanity in danger.
RFA- We were saving humanity! The ISA was the only government willing to do whatever was necessary to protect manking.
P- By enslaving it?
RFA- Better to be a slave than a corpse.
Transcript from Court-Martial of former Lieutenant ------- by the SUMCJ following the Mutiny
Shortly after establishing the Independent Systems' Alliance, the need for a strong naval fleet was immediately prioritised. Although many Union ships had defected, Sol still had a much lager industrial capacity.
The Department of Naval Policy quickly place a large order for ships that could be built quickly in large numbers. Minimal accomodations, simple lines and massive armour are the defining characteristics of the Leopold class. Equipped with light shields, most of the Leopold's power plant is diverted towards its massive helium-ion engines.
First seeing action at the Battle of Iris Station in 2301, the ISS Coming of Dawn and the ISS Subjugator both proved the viability of the design based on superior mobility and deployment of large numbers of space-borne fighters.
Leopold-Class ships have little offensive weaponry of the own for ships of their tonnage, a weakness duly exploited by Republic warships during the Ambush at Bakara. Arthonid vessels are highly vulnerable to space-borne fighters, leading to the Leopold being the first line of defense against Bug incursions into Alliance space.
Currently the second most-produced capital vessel in the Alliance Space Force, the Leopold is also popular with other factions to use not only as military carriers, but to transport people and goods, too.
Current cost of Leopold-Class Carrier: 1.67 billion credits
