The project seeks to promote, value-added products of limestone – referred to as Dimension Stone which is underutilized in Jamaica as many of these products are imported from around the world. The pandemic resulted in lack of imports from the Far East – tiles, counter tops, backsplashes, and there was a push to use locally produced stone. Many companies mine the raw material and send overseas for further processing e.g., bauxite and alumina are processed overseas into aluminium. The project will produce medium-sized stones, tiles, backsplashes, table tops for the local market to diversify the products that are made locally.
