GP Check Ups and Visits Throughout Pregnancy & Postnatally

GP Check Ups and Visits Throughout Pregnancy & Postnatally βš•οΈ

If you live in Ireland or you intend to live there for at least 1 year, you can get free antenatal care through the Maternity and Infant Care Scheme πŸ‘©βš•οΈ

The Maternity and Infant Care Scheme means you will have:

πŸ‘‰ Appointments with your GP during your pregnancy

πŸ‘‰ Appointments with midwives or an obstetrician during your pregnancy

πŸ‘‰ An ultrasound scan (the time of scan depends on the hospital)

πŸ‘‰ Blood tests

πŸ‘‰Medical care during labour and birth from midwives and an obstetrician if required

πŸ‘‰ Appointments with your GP for your baby's 2 week and 6 week postnatal checks and your own post-natal check-up, 6 weeks after the birth

On your first pregnancy the GP provides an initial examination, if possible before 12 weeks, and a further 5 examinations during the pregnancy, which are alternated with visits to the maternity unit/hospital.

The schedule of visits may be changed by your GP and/or hospital obstetrician, depending on your individual situation.

For subsequent pregnancies you will have an initial examination and a further 6 examinations. The number of appointments depends on your needs
