Cuatro Brumosos.
Misty Four early morning , these are four of the reflection trestle uprights from the other side of the river . That shot is 5 photos past this one. The day I was there I saw something on top of the trestle but I had close up glasses on and couldn't make it out, it looked like a big river bird when it moved, but then it stood up and started walking across the tracks from the middle of the trestle..If a train comes there are only 2 options at that point. And both have a terrible / certain end.
A few minutes later I saw someone in a hoodie walking the road and then walk behind my car in to the woods where I saw a few large totes with supplies and tent poles in it. I thought it belonged to a construction crew. My first thought was they're going to grab a pole and break one of my windows to get whats in the car. I grabbed the hunting knife and Bear spray I have in sheaths on my camera bag and went up to deal with it. I shoot in some pretty rough spots and 95% of the time I shoot alone and run into some shady people, so I always keep weapons with me .
As I came around the back of the car I saw a skirt and legs.. It was a girl, dirty, bug bites all over her legs and her hands were black from the track beams. I walked up to her and said "Yo, whats up" .. she got startled and jumped, she was still fumbling through the one tote when I walked up. She said "hey" and got nervous , she was fiddling with her dress. I asked about the totes and she said they were hers and she lived there under the trestle.. As soon as she said that she walked up to me said "Oh ..you smell so good".. my other addiction besides photography is collecting vintage fragrances so I always smell like something. I thought this was odd , but it could be genuine or a disarming method/comment so I just said thank you and put it in the rolodex .
We stood and talked about why she was living there and the reasons were horrible and unforgivable. I offered her money and or food and she refused , then telling me she was on food stamps. She also told me she had a few cats with her that she took care of and they were down by her sleeping bag under the trestle . After about 45 mins we shook hands and she went about her day and I left to go shoot on the other side of the river.
I went back yesterday with cat food so at least she would have one less thing to spend money/food stamps on... She was gone, along with all of her things. She did mention that the police always give her a hard time and that she has to find new places pretty often. Her name was Savannah , she was 24.
