Gumbaz, the final abode of Tipu Sultan and his parents
The Tomb of Tipu Sultan, also called the Gumbaz at Srirangapatna, is a beautiful and historic monument in Karnataka. Tipu Sultan built it in 1784 for his beloved father Hyder Ali and mother Fathima Fakhr-un-Nisa. Years later, after Tipu died fighting the British in 1799, he was also laid to rest here.
The tomb is known for its grand dome, shiny black granite pillars, and beautifully carved doors with ivory work. It sits in the middle of a peaceful garden called Lal Bagh, with the graves of Tipu’s family and soldiers nearby. Standing here feels like stepping back into the era of the “Tiger of Mysore,” a brave king who fought fiercely for his land.
