Tracking West
Running Long Hood
This looks like a set of DPUs, but if you zoom in there is a crew in the ACe. Today’s westbound trackage rights was in a very unique situation, the lead unit was running long hood forward. Apparently BNSF 8106, the second motor, was dead since the train left Provo and despite having another unit which was facing west, 1071, the only east facing unit was put on point. I assume there must had been some problem with the dash 9 as nobody wants to deal with a manifest on a mountain running long hood forward and being restricted to 20 mph. For railfans however, this was a welcomed sight as it made for some very interesting photos, an easy chase, and a sight very rarely seen on the mainline.
