Elusive Run

A solo California Northern genset makes its way through Orland on a Sunday morning. This is an unusual sight for many reasons as California Northern rarely runs on Sundays and it’s an elusive gypsum train. These rare runs come from the Union Pacific out of Empire, NV and are destined for Hamilton City, near Orland, to be unloaded. On the return trip it’s normal to only see one unit like on this day, but the genset struggled hard to get the train up to track speed of 30 mph despite the locomotive being in notch eight the entire time.
