Redding Trestle Heritage

By far this chase was one of the most fun I’ve ever done. The previous day me and some others had gotten word UP 1996 was leading the MWCEU, and later that day we had found out it was scheduled to leave Roseville a little after sunrise the next morning. However, in typical railroad fashion this did not happen, but it did leave later in the morning. Me and three others all decided to carpool and made a plan to chase it until we ran out of light. We did this because we were guaranteed good light further north, especially once it was starting to get to sunset. Another reason was that this train was over 10k ft in length, making it too long for almost every siding on the Valley Sub, so we were going to have no problem getting a lot of shots since every train would have to hold for them. Since the train left late, light was bright, harsh, and generally really bad for the northbound train out of Roseville. Despite that, we still tried to get the best photos possible. After chasing for quite a few hours and getting some good light on the train at Tehama, the four of us went to the well known Redding Trestle where we would call the chase. This shot was on the bucket list as we wanted to get the SP heritage unit leading over an SP bridge and the view one gets of the bridge from almost any angle does not disappoint. The first train we saw was the northbound Z train that went ahead of them. Soon after the MWCEU showed up and after the four of us climbed down to the road before going to get some dinner and head home.
