Village Green, Escrick, York

Escrick Village Green is a charming community space nestled in the heart of Escrick, a village just south of York. It was established in 1997 as part of the Carrs Meadow development and is leased to the Parish Council by the Escrick Park Estate.

The green is more than just a patch of grass—it’s a hub of village life. The Village Green Association (VGA), run entirely by volunteers, organizes events like the annual BYO dinner with music and fireworks, “Carols on the Green” at Christmas, and even commemorations for the Queen’s Jubilees. It’s also the start and finish line for the popular Escrick 10k race, a scenic multi-terrain run through the estate.

Funds raised from events help enhance the space with things like picnic benches, wildflower corridors, and marquees for community use. It’s a lovely example of how a village green can be both a literal and figurative common ground.
