Welfare Park, Blackhall, Durham

Blackhall Welfare Park is a well-loved recreational space in Durham, managed by Monk Hesleden Parish Council. Originally funded by the Miners Welfare Scheme, it opened in 1929 and was later transferred to the Parish Council in 1989 after the closure of Blackhall Colliery.

The park offers a variety of sports facilities, including cricket, football fields, and bowling greens. In 2010, new changing rooms were built with funding from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, enhancing the park’s amenities.

It remains a flagship community asset, providing leisure opportunities for locals and organized teams alike.
