Bus Crash Memorial, Blackhall, Durham

The Bus Crash Memorial in Blackhall, Durham commemorates the tragic Crawleyside Bank bus disaster that occurred on August 14, 1969. The accident claimed the lives of 19 people, including members of the Blackhall Colliery Veterans' Bowls Club and the bus driver's 12-year-old daughter. The crash devastated the local community, leading to the creation of a memorial garden in Welfare Park.

Every year, survivors, relatives, and community members gather to honour the victims with remembrance services, where schoolchildren lay flowers and read out the names of those lost. The Linda Watts Memorial Trophy, named after the bus driver’s daughter, is also played annually in their memory.
