First B&W Print

While this actual image on Flickr was captured with my iPhone, the photo itself is a legit black and white print. This semester at TU, I decided to take a photography class. This class is all about B&W film and working in the darkroom, so I have been learning all about that the last few weeks. In a matter of about 3 weeks, I went from having no clue about the darkroom and processing film to doing it several times (lots of trial and error) and having a good idea of the process now and what to do and what not to do. It has actually been really fun learning the whole process. Even though it is challenging and is very time consuming, it is worth it.

One of my first successful prints is the image you see above. This image was taken from Dad’s HO ATSF Hereford Subdivision of an eastbound zooming by a GP60 at Hereford, TX. The assignment for this particular picture was to shoot a moving object and have it be blurred. I think I successfully accomplished that. It helps when you sort of know what you are doing with the camera.

Image shot with a Canon Rebel 2000 with Ilford HP5+ 400 speed B&W film.
