Coal DPUs-Ludlow
On the way from Mountainair, NM to Denver, CO, we followed Amtrak north until Trinidad when we continued north, now following the Spanish Peaks Subdivision in Colorado. On the way out of Trinidad, we caught the rear end of this empty coal train (E-SPSNAM) where I noticed the sticker unit. Of course that got our attention so even though it was high sun, I pulled up the map and started looking for a place to stop and shoot this off the highway.
We ended up taking the beaten path to a ghost town by the name of Ludlow. The tracks sweep around into a big curve here and the train runs just about straight NE here, so this is where we would get the first shot. Pretty neat spot actually. Not too shabby for just going off a map.
