Westbound at Belva Comparison

For those of you reading this that don't know, I am a train nerd because of my Dad. My Dad has been an avid railfan his entire life and started his photography journey in the early 90s. Since I have been out on my own for about 2 years now, I've built up my own collection and have many photos that are similar to my Dad's photos.

One of these said photos is here at Curtis Hill near Belva, OK. This shot is of a westbound climbing up the 1% grade through the beautiful cuts of land that surround the railroad. While not quite the exact same spot, it is close enough to make a good comparison.

The top photo was taken by Sammy Carlile in September of 1996 of the 197 train. The bottom photo was taken by me in November of 2022 of the Z-WSPPHX. These are both the same trains, just 26 years apart.

Not too much has changed trackside other than the overgrowth which prevents easy accessibility for railfans. You used to be able to drive up that hill on the right. No way you can do that now. It requires a tough hike now (trust me from my experience).

I will probably upload more of these comparison shots as Dad and I have done up a few. He's here on Flickr, but he doesn't post often and still doesn't really know how to work it, but I'll tag him anyways so you can give him a follow.
