Delicate Arch and Storm over the La Sals
Here is another old photograph that I recently reprocessed. It is from 2007 taken during a field school that my company actually paid me to take as part of my continuing education. It just doesn't get much better than that.
The field school was designed to show us extensional tectonics in a salt supported regime. We were headquartered in Moab and looked at examples in Canyonlands and in Arches and the surrounding area. It was taught by Dr. Bruce Trudgill who did a great job.
One of the topics we examined was the role of relay ramp faults in extensional regimes. Delicate Arch just happens to be situated at the top of a very large relay ramp. Most of the trail over bare rock is traveling up the relay ramp. Bruce timed this stop perfectly and we ended this field stop at the top at sunset.
It was overcast all day but, right on cue, the sun broke out under the low cloud deck just at sunset.
What a day, what a school, and what a wonderful scene.
