Moonrise over Dagger Mountain, Tornillo Flat, and The Grapevine Hills
I am posting this photograph from early this year because I love the names of the subjects in the picture. They conjure romantic images of Big Bend and the Chihauhuan Desert in my mind.
I also love the warmth that the setting sun shot through the atmosphere on this mid-winter sunset. Big Bend is actually farther South than San Antonio and dusk still retains the warmth of the Southern Sun even in winter. The dry air of the desert, however, allows the temperature to collapse noticeably after sunset.
I like the colors in this photograph because they represent the warm earth and the cold night descending on it with the moon witnessing the change as it rose in the sky.
