Skagit Valley Daffodils
Spring is around the corner!
The Skagit Valley of Washington is famous for its daffodils and tulips. The valley is not really a valley at all rather it is the delta of the Skagit River where it empties into Skagit Bay. The flat delta plain is incredibly fertile because its soil is made up of the Cascade Volcanics eroded off of Mount Baker and are rich in minerals.
The daffodils bloom first and are a sure sign that spring is coming. The fields will erupt in technicolor later when the tulips bloom but for now, golden yellow carpets cover the delta. The clouds are the last gasp of a late winter Pacific storm that blew across the fields earlier in the week giving the bulbs a healthy dose of moisture to support the explosion of gold.
This was taken last year when we helped my daughter and son-in-law move back to Texas.
I miss NW Washington and hope I can return soon!
