Head Shop

Back in the early seventies, Peoria had two head shops, The Good Seed and The Omega Boutique. A head shop was basically a store to supply the needs of hippies. In those days you needed a source for things like papers for rolling joints, pipes for hashish, bongs for taking a more powerful hit, black light posters, bell bottom trousers, incense to cover the smell of pot smoke, and other iconic cultural items for the lifestyle. Oh yeah, don’t forget to get a few Robert Crumb comics while you are there to feed your world view. The window display seen here is Ribbon Records. These young folks have taken over the same old building we used to flock to and made it into this day’s version of a head shop. Here you are more likely to find hip vintage clothing, old vinyl LP records of the same music we listened to, and all of the various goods necessary to be hip today. This is a cool place. Some things never change. They just pop up again dressed in different clothing. Cheers hipsters. You really aren’t that different from your boomer grandparents.
