I came to Santorini to sketch this dome. But I just didn’t realize it’s absolutely hell to do so. First the access path is about 2 ft wide down a slope of uneven stone steps. Second there are a zillion tourists dressed up in their most ridiculously romantic costumes trying to have their instagram photos taken here. Third there is no place to hide from a brutal sun. So I searched for a quick solution and saw the patio of Melenio coffee pastry shop. The upper roof were filled but nobody cared for the medium level. So I grabbed the best table and ordered lunch which unfortunately was limited to sandwiches. But I got my perfect sketching spot and with a beer for company … life was as good as it could be. The grumpy waiter Nary turned out to be very nice and approving of my sketching. The brunch costs 30 euros and I tipped Nary 5 … then making my way back to the hotel for a nap.
