Aurora on the Border

A surprise geomagnetic sub-storm fired up along the Canadian border as we were preparing to board our power and commence building our train for the trip back to Proctor. The Northern Lights are obviously a marvel to witness but can be a fickle and difficult thing to forecast. The space weather data for that particular night wasn’t overly compelling but we got an absolutely brilliant display of lights flashing and pulsing through the atmosphere above proving once again that the key ingredient in catching the aurora is simple dumb luck.
