“Sardar” Vallabhbhai Patel- The Iron Pillar of Unity (artist: Dhaval Patel)
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister of India, the first Home Minister of India and the independent activist who put his effort for making the single Union of India. Sardar was born in Karmsad, (District) Anand (Gujarat, India) on 31st October, 1875.
The Worlds Tallest Statue “Statue of Unity” tells the story of this “Iron man”. People of India loves him so much that they call him “Sardar” which means ‘the chief’. The name of the university located in Anand, Gujarat, India, is the Sardar Patel University on the name of this ‘sardar patel’. His firm decisions make about the nation brings the brock India United we see today.
By participating in agar art organized by American Society for Microbiology, I try to remember the great freedom fighter and our inspiration “sardar Vallabhbhai patel” and put his shadow sketch on Nutrient agar plate supplimeted with 1% glycerol with the help of Chromobacterium violaceum inoculated on it.
Chromobacterium violaceum is Gram negative facultative anaerobic bacteria which produces violet pigment which I feel best suited for making shadow sketch.
Painting is my passion and I always found of doing the art with colours. Pigmented bacteria helps me to merge my inner artist and microbiologist to put my thoughts my view and my inspiration on agar plates. Agar art contest give the chance not only me but also many others to show their potential and inspire others to know such little creatures and obviously our ancestors. By this sketch I want to say “Be Sardar of Your Words. Stay united and let’s grow together. This world is beautiful and we are the pillars of this beautiful worlds”.
