Lemonade (artist: Silvia Donica)

When life gives you fungi, make some "Lemonade" :)

In this work I used Rhodotorula (red) sp. and Candida tropicalis (white) stains on Sabouraud dextrose agar, a selective medium for isolating fungi, to create mini-universe of microorganisms, which turned out to look like a summer inspiring theme. My sister calls it "little lemons", I call it "Lemonade".

Rhodotorula species are widespread in nature and can be isolated from a variety of sources including air, soil, seawater, plants, dairy products, and the household environment. Candida tropicalis is commonly found on plants and in the digestive system of mammals, especially in the gastrointestinal tract and in the mucocutaneous membranes of humans.

An original mix, don't you think?
