Le flambé
grand papillon de forme vaguement triangulaire possédant une queue, d'une envergure de 50 à 70 mm (le mâle est plus petit que la femelle) et reconnaissable à ses grands vols planés. Sur un fond blanc à jaune pâle, l'aile antérieure présente six rayures noires disposées en éventail et l'aile postérieure une bordure noire et des lunules marginales bleues ainsi qu'un ocelle anal bleu cerné de noir et surmonté d'un arc orange.
Plus rarement, les profanes (dont moi) peuvent le confondre avec le grand porte-queue Papilio machaon !
Aujourd'hui j'ai appris à les différencier !
The flambé
is a large, vaguely triangular butterfly with a tail, a wingspan of 50 to 70 mm (the male is smaller than the female) and a long, gliding flight. On a white to pale yellow background, the forewing has six black fan-shaped bands, while the hindwing has a black border and blue marginal lunules, as well as a blue anal ocelli surrounded by black and topped by an orange arc.
More rarely, laymen (myself included) may confuse it with the great hairstreak Papilio machaon !
Today, I've learned to tell them apart !
