Inner World

There is this whole inner world

That forms a beating heart of love remembered

That has been quietly keeping vigil

As the decades pass

To walk within is to travel

Backwards and forwards in time

To the same longings

Pleadings and sins

But this continued journey

Helps us to hang onto our pride

At least before a fall

The dead are waiting

The same way that we are

To be one step closer to paradise

To be that much closer to you

To begin again

All new

To enter into a church dated back to medieval times is to experience the passing of history, yet at the same time to feel time pause and give you some respite for a while.

This is the point of sacred places, they allow you that time to reflect, to rest and commune with your God if you wish. Sometimes that God will directly communicate with you.

Or perhaps previous communities who worshipped in that building will still be felt as such love that was cherished never fades. Such love is always waiting, both for the living and the dead.

This image was taken in Ripe Church, East Sussex in the UK, and is a parish church of great serenity and beauty.

I have paired this work with U2’s “Every Breaking Wave”, from their latest collection, as this version has that haunting quality to it as if it were sung in a church setting…
