Sanctuary

I kept passing by

Every day for years

What could you offer me

I wondered

Only tears

You’re just for weddings

Funerals and fears

But a day comes

When all that disappears

Nothing matters

When all thoughts stop

And you are on the edge of a drop

A precipice of denial

Lean one way

I’ll be fine

Lean the other

No I’m not

I wanted my thoughts

In some sort of order

Help me please

Before it’s all over

I went inside and had a look

I got more than what I bargained for

Unconditional love and much more

A small quiet ask

Was all it took

Conversations about many things

And now I know

You were always listening to me

You knew me

You saw me

Right from the beginning

The beautiful gateway to Glynde Church in Sussex, UK, has not changed for many years, except that the gates need to be refitted to the porch. Money is always needed for restoration. Images from the past in black & white and sepia still show this entrance, so I thought I would take my own in homage.
