Son La Prison stands as a haunting reminder of Vietnam’s colonial past. Built by the French in 1908, it was used to imprison and torture Vietnamese revolutionaries. In the 1930s, political prisoners were brutally executed — some even beheaded and their heads displayed publicly to instill fear and suppress resistance. Today, the ruins of the prison tell chilling stories of resilience, sacrifice, and the fight for independence.

On our 9-day Ha Noi to Ha Giang motorbike tour, this historic site is a powerful stop where you’ll learn about Vietnam's fight against colonialism and visit the cells that once held national heroes. A journey not just of landscapes, but of legacy.
