Die Autobahnraststätte „Hermsdorfer Kreuz“ liegt an der Schnittstelle jahrhunderte alter Handelswege. Nach Süden führten sie bis nach Rom und in östlicher Richtung bis ins Osmanische Reich. Mit dem Bau der Autobahn ab 1936 von München in die Reichshauptstadt Berlin wurde auch der Rasthof erstellt.
Im damals aufblühenden Automobilísmus baute man Rasthöfe nicht nur zur Versorgung mit automobilem Bedarf. Sie wurden an landschaftlich besonders schönen Stellen errichtet und dienten der Erholung, der Rast und auch dem „sehen und gesehen werden“.
Ursprünglich sollte „Hermsdorf“ der größte deutsche Rasthof werden. Mit dem 2. Weltkrieg wurden die Bauten eingestellt.
Ob der damalige Reichsführer jemals in dem Rasthof übernachtete ist umstritten und auch kaum erwähnenswert. Aber die Tatsache, dass dort ein "FührerZimmer" jahrelang gegen entsprechenden Obolus für bare Münze verkauft wurde, verdient Erwähnung.
Mit Einführung der Transitstrecke durch die DDR nach Berlin bezog die STASI die obere Etage.
Das Restaurantgebäude ist im Originalzustand erhalten und steht unter Denkmalschutz. Ein Besuch lohnt sich und ist von der A9 aus beiden Fahrtrichtungen möglich. In Fahrtrichtung Leipzig/Berlin, vom letzten Parkplatz vor dem BAB-Kreuz durch die Fußgängerunterführung..

The Autobahn service area "Hermsdorfer Kreuz" lies at the interface of centuries-old trade routes. To the south they led to Rome and to the east to the Ottoman Empire. With the construction of the motorway from Munich to the Reich capital Berlin in 1936, the service area was also built.
In the then blossoming Automobilísmus, service areas were built not only to supply automotive needs. They were built in particularly scenic locations and were used for recreation, rest and also for "seeing and being seen".
Originally, "Hermsdorf" was to become the largest German service area. With the 2nd world war the buildings were stopped.
Whether the then Reichsführer ever stayed overnight in the service area is controversial and hardly worth mentioning. But the fact that a "FührerZimmer" was sold there for many years at cash for a corresponding amount of money deserves to be mentioned.
With the introduction of the transit route through the GDR to Berlin, STASI moved to the upper floor.
The restaurant building has been preserved in its original state and is a listed building. A visit is worthwhile and is possible from the A9 from both directions. In the direction of Leipzig/Berlin, from the last car park before the motorway intersection through the pedestrian underpass...
