St. Basil 's Church on the Hill
The Cathedral of St. Basil the Great was erected near the wall of the Middle City (now lost) back in the 14th century; in the chronicle under 1377, it is said about the decoration of this temple with paintings. He had an alarm bell ringing during the siege of Pskov by the troops of Stefan Batory in 1581. In 1413, a new church was erected, which underwent many alterations. "In order to judge the former appearance of St. Basil's Church on the Hill, research is needed, which no one has even tried to start until now," wrote Yu.P. Spegalsky in 1963. Since that time, the study of the temple has progressed somewhat, but the hour of restoration of the most beautiful of the Pskov temples has not yet struck…
The main volume of the single-domed temple may have been covered with a posacomar; the current four-pitched covering certainly grossly distorts its completion. Placed on the basement, the temple had a two-tiered gallery and a side chapel from the north (St. Alexei). It is difficult to admit that the temple ... is very rich in composition, did not have a second chapel ... the western part is completely distorted, it was attached to it in the 18th century
