Martinique - Lesser Antilles
I was given this doll between 1964 and 2010.
The background is a dulemola (mola blouse panel) made up of faded black cotton hand appliquéd onto an orange cotton ground in a geometric pattern. The two-colour mola has only two layers of cloth, which is characteristic of the older “grandmother” compositions, which are revered as the earliest type but still widely made today.
