Vehicle Certification Agency

The Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) is an executive agency of the UK Department for Transport that helps to protect the public's vehicles and those of the commercial motor industry by ensuring that they meet various certification and safety standards. Its activities include assigning the Type Approval administering the Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) programme testing and certifying modifications to vehicles and publishing vehicle recall data. The VCA also assesses the technical competence of bus and coach operators as well as enforcement authorities and has a range of other powers and programs. It also acts as the UK's points of contact for EU regulation bodies such as the European Commission. Overall the VCA helps promote a safe and efficient transport environment while ensuring the continued competitiveness of the UK motor industry internationally.
