The Gentleman's Modern Dressing Gown

The late 1980s saw an explosion of gadgets and doodads exploiting the newly available cheap "microchips".

Some of these were quite frankly a load of old tat, but a few honourable exceptions exist.

This advertisement (taken from the pages of VIX magazine, aimed at entrepreneurs and wealthy slackajaws) shows just one such.

For a premium price of nearly two pounds, the wannabe aristidiot could purchase the sauna in a dressing gown.

Complete with a little remote control wired into the right-hand pocket, a simple press of the button would induce clouds of steam from the warm interior.

Buttons ranging from "sooth" to "choke" allowed exactly the desired amount of steam, whilst inbuilt heating elements would on occasion allow exactly the undesired amount of smoke.
