RoadRailer Finale – Epilogue

The final RoadRailer makes way towards the setting sun. Like all nice things, they eventually come to an end.

To me, the RoadRailer is synonymous with a better time of railfanning where one could see things such as standard cab leaders on road trains, actual 60 MPH running, and minimal PSR operations. The RoadRailer is also reminiscent of intermodal trains hauling only one brand like the UP K-Line “K” trains. With that operating practice now long gone, the Triple Crown RoadRailer making it all the way to 2024 is pretty amazing to think about. I feel like I missed out on a lot of the fun during that time as I began this hobby in late 2020. With the hobby becoming less interesting at this time, the RoadRailer stuck out like a sore thumb. I wondered how in the midst of a lot of cool aspects of this hobby dying, how was the RoadRailer still around. Up until Trains Magazine published their article with the RoadRailer death date, there were many people who didn’t even know it was still running. I assume they thought it died off with many other interesting things several years ago. Because I never got to see the cool stuff running around KC pre-2020, I made it a commitment to capture as much of the RoadRailer as possible. Unfortunately, the RoadRailer has now caught up with KCS, MRL, and other cherished facets of this hobby in being another American railroad memory.

RIP the RoadRailer.
