Entering Illinois
NS 256 makes its way past the triple set of Wabash-era tri-head searchlights at East Hannibal, IL on the NS Springfield-Hannibal District. They just went through many tight curves, through a tunnel, over a diamond, and across a the Mississippi River all within about 1.5 miles.
After hearing about a late 256, I scrambled to get in my car and head to Moberly and chase it. Thankfully my work was closed due to the weather and there wasn't a cloud in the sky, something we haven't had in about a month. The Nocturnal Southern normally runs train in the dark through Missouri, so I was not going to skip out on this opportunity. I'll post my other shots from this chase later.
To my surprise, 256 had a nice ace leader and legend engineer Jim Mangram at the throttle. It may be a shorter train, but the roadrailer is an endangered species that will supposedly become defunct this summer. If you look closely, you can see some snow on some of the trailers!
