CP 674

Here is CP 674 loaded full of sand heading towards the Truman Drawbridge on the CP Kansas City Subdivision in Birmingham, MO. The old Milwaukee Road searchlights and code line polls give a reminder of who built this line. It’s neat to think that those searchlights saw trains such at MILW’s “Southwest Limited” or the SOO intermodal trains of the 90s. This line is also joint with UP as the Rock Island “Spine Line” was joint with MILW from Polo, MO to KC. The Rock would apparently use the CB&Q via Cameron Jct. to get to KC, but they liked the MILW better. The MILW realigned their line from Polo to KC so they could create a double track joint MILW/RI line. I suppose if the Rock didn’t join up with the MILW, UP trains would be seen today in towns like Cameron, Holt, Kearney, and Liberty where the old CB&Q Brookfield alignment once was.
