The Church of St. Nicholas
Церковь Николы из деревни Высокий Остров Окуловского района была построена «тщанием прихожан» в 1757 году, т. е. в середине XVIII века, когда пора расцвета народного деревянного зодчества уже миновала. Однако в этот период получили широкое распространение так называемые ярусные церкви, в которых были еще выражены традиции древнерусской архитектуры.
Это очень внушительное по своим размерам строение. Длина церкви — 29,7 м, ширина — 9 м, высота-22,3 м, высота колокольни — 28,2 м.
Никольский храм срублен, как говорили в старину, «кораблем», то есть все составные части здания расположены строго симметрично по продольной оси.
The Church of St. Nicholas from the village of Vysokiy Ostrov, Okulovsky District, was built by “the diligence of the parishioners” in 1757, that is, in the middle of the 18th century, when the heyday of folk wooden architecture had already passed. However, during this period, the so-called tiered churches became widespread, in which the traditions of ancient Russian architecture were still expressed.
This is a very imposing building. The length of the church is 29.7 m, the width is 9 m, the height is 22.3 m, the height of the bell tower is 28.2 m.
The Nikolsky temple was cut down, as they used to say in the old days, by a “ship”, that is, all the components of the building are located strictly symmetrically along the longitudinal axis.
