Questioning nationality

In a quest to the true meaning of nationality I attempted to go back to my Dutch roots by eating nothing but potatoes for the course of a week. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’m questioning the feeling of nationality by eating only what I consider the most Dutch food there is. Can eating the one thing you associate with your country make you feel more Dutch?

 

I photographed every meal I ate and filmed myself eating every last potato.

 

I am working on a collection of talks with people from different countries on their feeling of nationality and how they link this to food.

 

I will be showing the progress of this project in a video and sound installation with accompanying photographs of dishes and a research on my own national pride.
