Spark Sunday

Only a few hours after Steamrail's Tait train travelled along the line after operating Steamrail's Mernda Shuttles, another extremely rare train visited the Mernda line in the form of a six-car Siemens Nexas train.

After regular services operated by the infamous X'Trapolis trains experienced adhesion issues throughout the day, and shortly before service frequencies increased to serve the rush of football traffic from the MCG, Metro Trains Melbourne arranged the extremely rare operation of a 6-car Siemens Nexas train on the Mernda Line.

The train was operated as an empty cars move to sand the rails at several key locations along the line, running two trips from the city to Epping & Return.

On the second of its two runs for the night, Siemens set 774M-773M-778M-777M passes through Northcote heading back to the city as sanding train 0254. 28/4/24
