Pine and Resin Pizza Cutter & Ice Cream Scoop

Stabilized Pine and Resin Pizza Cutter & Ice Cream Scoop

These handles were cast earlier in the year from dye stabilized pine obtained from old bleachers that our area Lutheran High School replaced. The plan is to provide these to the 2024 Gala Auction in April 2024. The stands were cut from the recycled bleacher wood and clear-coated.

The pizza cutter handle was dye stabilized with Alumilite Blue dye and Turntex Emerald Green and Fireball Red. After stabilizing, it was cast with Alumilite Clear Slow tinted with PolyColor Dark Red Metallic, and Wine Country Mica Ocean Blue and Interference Red mica powders.

The ice cream scoop handle was pine dye stabilized with Turntex Emerald Green, Purple Haze, and Electric Blue. After stabilizing, it was cast with Alumilite Clear Slow tinted with Wine Country Mica Rose’, Royal Gold, and Interference Violet mica powders.

Finish was accomplished by sanding to 1200 grit, polishing with Yorkshire Grit microfine and finished with Mylands Melamine Lacquer. The lacquer was allowed to cure and then sanded back. In this case, the sanding went through the finish, so several coats of CA glue were used as a final finish and sanded back. The finish was then polished with Stadium Pen Blanks Magic Juice.

The stands were made from bleacher wood and cut out with the laser. After assembly, the stands were clear-coated.
