Nereid (Sea-Nymph) from a Hanging - 1953.18_print

This beautiful tapestry, "Nereid (Sea-Nymph) from a Hanging" is on display in Gallery 106A at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The piece dates back to the late 300s - 400s, Egypt, Byzantine period, late 4th - 5th century. The "Slit-and dovetailed" tapestry is woven in a "linen plain-weave ground; dyed wool, undyed linen." The tapestry is of a mythological sea-nymph adorned with all types of jewelry The dimensions are 66.7 x 65.4 cm. The tapestry was purchased from the J. H. Wade Fund. The image is in the Public Domain and can be seen on the museum's website.
