Frame for a Portable Reliquary Icon - 1978.26

According to the museum, this beautiful frame is made of gilded wood, modeled gesso, verre eglomise, glass cabochons, and relics.

 

This type of frame was very admired and had lots of power. The museum states that it once contained a painting on each side.

 

Overall, it is 66.7 x 51.3 x 25.3 cm.
