Beginning of Fall

Monday, 28 August 2023: Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) Fairbanks Yard Job is headed back Railroad South to Fairbanks Yard. Here they are about 7 miles into their 28 mile trip and have just passed MP G21 before sweeping around this curve and under the Richardson Highway. Although not even September the leaves are already starting to turn up on the North End. Within a few weeks fall will be in full swing and the hills will be many colors of yellow and orange for their twice a week trips to Eielson. 2023 marks 70 years of operation for Eielson’s Central Heat and Power Plant with it coming online in 1953.

Leading the train on this day was 2005 and 2003 both GP38-2’s originally built for the Pen Central. Built in 1969 they were later absorbed by Conrail before coming up the the Last Frontier in 1986. Still in the 1980’s Alaska Bold scheme these two are no stranger to the North End. The Crew would go on to pull one load from K&K Recycling before getting into Fairbanks Yard and calling it a day.
