Copper Throated Sunbird

April 2024 : The Copper-throated Sunbird is a lovely bird to photograph. Especially the male. Always best when it is in sunlight so you can see the iridescent feathers on display. The challenge is that they live in the mangrove forest, where light is at a premium.

What are iridescent feathers? They are the result of the refraction of incident light caused by the microscopic structure of the feather barbules. The refraction works like a prism, splitting the light into rich, component colors. As the viewing angle changes, the refracted light becomes visible in a glowin
