Traveling Post Office

by renzojager

The first transportation of mail by rail occurred on 11th November 1830 on the Manchester & Liverpool Railway. Companies were later obliged by an Act of Parliament to transport the post as part of an ordinary or special train. The GNR’s first mail vans appeared around 1849 and by the last quarter of the 19th century five were operational.

My lego build is inspired by Traveling Post Office nr. 2181, with was built at Doncaster in 1885. With being a 6-wheel wagon, it really suits my other 6-wheel couches.

Next to the railway there is the place where workmen of the post hang the bags with mail for pick-up, and also there is the dropping point, for picking up bags of mail.
