Elegy
Autumn leaves on the Oxbow Lake Loop trail, Washington
Taken September 5th, 2021
Colors burn where yesterday were none.
Days creep shorter, ever hastening the night.
Time grasps and clings to fleeting hours.
And summer tumbles to the fall.
I noticed some leaves were turning already on my hike in the Middlefork Snoqualmie area yesterday. I’m sure in a few weeks I will be embracing the colorful beauty and all the other wonderful things about autumn, but for now I find myself loath to surrender the summer just yet.
