Intermezzo (In Explore 08/14/2021)

Sunset, Cannon Beach, Oregon

Last night’s sunset, from the opening notes of golden glow to the final fade of dusky pink and purple, was an ever changing melody of sky, as the clouds and colors shifted from minute to minute. Based on time stamps on my photos, this brief moment where the sun looked as though it were falling through the clouds and everything was awash in red and orange hues, lasted less than three minutes, but seemed to stretch on much longer when measured in “beach sunset time”.

Cannon Beach is a very popular place to watch the sunset, so I didn’t have the beach to myself, but as I walked barefoot on the soft sand, inhaling the salty scent of the sea, and occasionally wading into the toe-chilling water, the other beachgoers slowly receded into the background until I felt as though I was alone with the sky and the moment was mine to get lost in.
