"Bobby's Dreams" - a miscellany - Malcolm Rush on duty in Swithland Sidings Signal Box on 9 February 2013
FIRST POSTED ON 27 FEBRUARY 2023
This Album is the final Project-wide addition to my Signal Box Track Diagram Project.
The Album contains some items which I feel will be of passing interest and some which, perhaps, deserve being highlighted in their own right, rather than adding to the specific signal box. I'll update with any relevant ad hoc information which comes my way.
I was trying to find a suitable photo for the Album cover, along with an appropriate Album name.
Then I remembered an idea I had developed from a few years ago.... a Signalman was quite often known as "Bobby"....... so any aspirations that a Signalman may have could be "Bobby's Dreams" ?
Well, I've been fortunate enough to realise my "Bobbies Dreams", starting in 1995 when I became a volunteer Signalman on the Great Central Railway www.gcrailway.co.uk/
Through the passage of time I've worked Loughborough Central and Rothley boxes. Those were supplemented with Quorn and Woodhouse box when that box was brought into service. Later on I was passed for Swithland Sidings box and I remember thinking at the time that I had fulfilled my "Bobby's Dreams" !!!
Hopefully my Project has inspired you to reflect on, and admire, the many people who work/worked in the Signalling part of "The Railway" - EVERYONE in Signalling who play/played their part with the aim being to keep the system working safely and efficiently.
Thank you for visiting.
1) "THE VISIT" - a short fictional story I wrote on 4 January 1966 and, honestly, I wasn't aware of the Charles Dickens story "The Signalman" when I wrote it !! www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52696167228/in/album-...
2) My planning scribbles for my box visits on Saturday 2 July 1966 www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52696167278/in/album-...
3) My train ticket Sheffield Victoria to Nottingham Victoria via Heath on 25 August 1966 www.flickr.com/photos/192151030@N08/52705880451/in/album-...
